The minister also informed the Assembly that prior to 2016, there were only seven categories of disabilities recognized by the central govt. “With the enactment of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the number of recognized disabilities was expanded to 21 categories,” said the minister.
Minister of Social justice and empowerment Avinash Gehlot reiterated in the Assembly that the state Govt. is in the process of granting a 4% notional reservation in promotion for disabled persons, effective from June 30, 2016.
He stated that, as per the directions of the Finance Department, all departments have been asked to provide details on the financial impact of this reservation. “A policy decision will be made after the financial assessment is completed, ensuring compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders,”said the minister.

Singh Meena, the minister explained that the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, along with a Supreme Court ruling, established provisions for granting a 4% notional reservation in promotions for disabled employees.
